Exosome-Based Liquid Biopsy for Liver Cancer Diagnosis

This observational study is developing a new diagnostic test called ELUCIDATE to help doctors tell the difference between two types of primary liver cancer: hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC). It can be difficult to tell these cancers apart before surgery, but they need different treatments. Researchers will analyze blood samples to look at tiny particles called exosomes, which carry information about the cancer. The goal is to see how well ELUCIDATE can accurately identify each type of liver cancer. You may be able to join if you are 18 or older, have a confirmed diagnosis of HCC or ICC, and have a blood sample available from before treatment.

Eligibility criteria

Inclusion

A histologically confirmed diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma
A histologically confirmed diagnosis of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma
Received standard diagnostic and staging procedures as per local guidelines
Availability of at least one blood-derived sample, drawn before receiving any curative-intent treatment

Exclusion

Lack of or inability to provide informed consent
Synchronous hepatocellular carcinoma and intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma
Primary liver cancer other than hepatocellular carcinoma or intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma
Secondary liver cancer
