Intracardiac Versus Transesophageal Echocardiographic Guidance for Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion

This study is looking at two different ways to guide a procedure called Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion (LAAO). LAAO is a procedure to close off a small pouch in the heart called the left atrial appendage, which can reduce the risk of stroke in people with a heart condition called non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF). The study compares using Intracardiac Echocardiography (ICE) to guide the procedure versus the more traditional Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE) approach. You might be able to join if you are between 18 and 90 years old, have NVAF, and are at high risk for stroke, but need an alternative to long-term blood thinners. The study will consider the procedure successful if the LAAO device is placed correctly without major complications or leaks. The study aims to enroll 444 participants, but its current recruitment status is unclear.

  • Procedural success following implantation of the left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO) device.Intra op

Procedural success specifies that the device should be implanted in the correct position measured as: Peri-device leaks greater than 5 milliliters on color doppler (Yes/No)
