Peer Support for Adolescents and Emerging Adults With Sickle Cell Pain

This study, called PRESENCE, is looking at ways to help young people (ages 16-30) with sickle cell disease who experience chronic pain. It's testing if digital Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a type of talk therapy, can reduce pain, opioid use, and hospital visits. You would use an app called CaRISMA. Some participants will also get personalized peer support from community groups. The study wants to see if digital CBT, with or without peer support, works better than usual care for managing pain. The goal is to improve your pain intensity and how much pain interferes with your life.

Study design
This is a multi-site, randomized controlled trial with 470 participants. You would be assigned by chance to one of three groups: digital CBT with a health coach, digital CBT without a health coach (self-guided), or usual care.
