Comparing Bone Marrow Collection Systems for Hip Bone Loss

This study is comparing two ways to collect bone marrow liquid: the standard Zimmer Biomet Biocue system and the new Marrow Cellutions system™. Researchers want to see which method collects more stem cells. You might be able to join if you are 18-50 years old and are having hip surgery for bone loss (hip arthropathy), dead bone tissue (avascular necrosis of bone), or bone cysts (subchondral cysts). People with certain blood conditions, diabetes, or a history of bone marrow diseases cannot participate. The main goal is to measure the total number of stem cells collected from each method after 6 months. The current recruitment status is unclear.

Eligibility criteria

Inclusion

patients aged 18 - 50
patients undergoing hip arthroscopy for subchondral bone cysts and/or avascular necrosis

Exclusion

patients with a history of hematologic issues including anemia and sickle cell anemia
patients with a history of leukemia, lymphoma, or other bone marrow related diseases
patients with diabetes
patients with a history of bone marrow aspirate
