Perampanel for Seizure Prevention After Cardiac Arrest
This study is testing a drug called perampanel to see if it can safely prevent seizures (status epilepticus) in patients who have survived a heart attack (cardiac arrest). After a cardiac arrest, brain injury is common, and seizures can occur in many patients. Perampanel works by blocking a specific brain chemical receptor (AMPA glutamate receptor) that plays a role in seizures. Researchers want to find out if perampanel is safe and can help prevent these seizures. You might be able to join if you are at least 18 years old, had a cardiac arrest outside the hospital, are in a coma, and were revived within 45 minutes. The study will look at how safe perampanel is and if there are any serious side effects within 7 days.
- Study design
- This is a pilot randomized, placebo-controlled study, meaning some participants will receive perampanel and others will receive a placebo (an inactive substance). The study plans to enroll 52 participants.
- What's involved
- Not specified in the trial record.
- Compensation
- Not stated in the trial record.
- Follow-up
- The safety and tolerability of perampanel, as well as adverse events, will be measured at 7 days.
