Brighter Bites/Legacy Produce Rx Program for Child Obesity

This study is looking at whether a program providing fresh fruits and vegetables can help improve the health of teenagers with obesity. You might be able to join if you are 12-17 years old, a patient at a Legacy Community Health School-based clinic in Galena Park, Texas, have a BMI (Body Mass Index) at or above the 85th percentile, and live near the Houston Food Bank. Participants in the "Produce Prescription Group" will receive 16 bags of fruits and vegetables delivered to their homes. The study will measure changes in BMI, systolic blood pressure, and diastolic blood pressure over 32 weeks to see if the program is successful. The current recruitment status is unclear.

Eligibility criteria

Inclusion

Must be a patient at one of the four Legacy Community Health School-based clinics in Galena Park, Texas
BMI greater than or equal to 85th percentile
reside within a 10-mile radius of Houston Food Bank
Medicaid recipients or low-income uninsured
parents must be able to read and write in English or Spanish to complete surveys
patient and parents must confirm their willingness to complete the participant's well-child visit for the entire period of the study (approximately one year).
