Ergothioneine Supplement for Kidney Failure Patients

This study is testing whether a daily supplement of ergothioneine can restore its levels in the blood of people with kidney failure (ESRD) who are on dialysis. Dialysis can remove important chemicals like ergothioneine, which is often low in these patients. Participants will receive either an ergothioneine capsule or a placebo capsule daily for 12 weeks. The main goal is to see how much ergothioneine levels in red blood cells change over time. You may be able to join if you are 18 or older, have kidney failure, and are on hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis. We are looking to enroll 28 participants.

Study design
This study is an interventional study, meaning participants will receive a specific treatment. It plans to enroll 28 participants.
What's involved
Participants will take a capsule daily for 12 weeks. Blood tests will be done at weeks 1, 2, 4, 8, 12, 16, and 20.
Compensation
Not stated in the trial record.
Follow-up
Participants will be followed for 8 weeks after stopping the ergothioneine or placebo, with blood tests at weeks 16 and 20.
