Preventing Pressure Injuries in Spinal Cord Injury Clinics

This study is testing a tool called CAPP-FIT (Community Acquired Pressure Injury Prevention Field Implementation Tool) to help prevent pressure injuries (PrIs) in Veterans with spinal cord injury (SCI). People with SCI are at high risk for PrIs, which are skin sores caused by pressure. The CAPP-FIT includes a survey for Veterans to identify risks and a report for providers with recommended actions. The study aims to see if using CAPP-FIT can reduce new pressure injuries that develop outside of a hospital or nursing home. You may be able to join if you are a Veteran with SCI, have a scheduled appointment in an SCI clinic, and can complete a survey. The study is looking for 808 participants. The study's status is currently unclear.

Study design
This is an interventional study that will involve 808 participants. It uses a stepped wedge randomized design across six SCI clinics.
What's involved
You would complete a survey, which can be done at home via email or text, or using an iPad at the clinic. Providers will also receive training and participate in focus groups.
Compensation
Not stated in the trial record.
Follow-up
The study will track the incidence of new pressure injuries for 6 months after CAPP-FIT is put into use.
