Music-STAR Trial: Music for Pre-operative Stress and Pain in Neurosurgery

This study, called the Music-STAR Trial, is looking at how live and recorded music might help reduce stress, improve mood, and lessen pain for patients having brain or spinal surgery (neurosurgery). Researchers want to see if music can change your vital signs and certain markers in your blood (biomarkers) related to stress. You would be randomly assigned to one of three groups: receiving simulated live music, recorded music, or no music. The study aims to enroll 132 adult patients who are having neurosurgery and are not deaf or hearing-impaired. Success will be measured by changes in your stress and mood, as well as stress biomarkers, throughout the study.
