Combined Anabolic Therapy for Postmenopausal Osteoporosis

This study is looking at two FDA-approved medications, romosozumab and teriparatide, to see how well they treat osteoporosis (a condition that makes bones weak and more likely to break) in women after menopause. You may be able to join if you are a woman aged 45 or older, have gone through menopause, and have osteoporosis with a high risk of fractures. We are trying to see if these treatments improve your bone mineral density in your lower back over 12 months. The current recruitment status is unclear.

Eligibility criteria

Inclusion

women aged 45+
postmenopausal
osteoporotic with high risk of fracture

Exclusion

no significant previous use of bone health modifying treatments
known congenital or acquired bone disease other than osteoporosis
significant renal disease, liver disease, cardiopulmonary disease, or psychiatric disease
abnormal calcium or parathyroid hormone level
serum vitamin D \<20 ng/dL
anemia (hematocrit \<32%)
history of malignancy (except non-melanoma skin carcinoma)
excessive alcohol use or substance abuse
known contraindications to romosozumab or teriparatide
