ACL Injury Risk Screening and Normative Data Study

This observational study aims to understand what makes athletes more likely to injure their anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), a common knee injury. Researchers will collect information on muscle strength and movement patterns from healthy athletes aged 10 to 65 who play organized sports. They will then follow these athletes for 12 months to see if any new musculoskeletal injuries, especially ACL injuries, occur. The goal is to create a large database of normal athletic movements and identify factors that predict injury risk. This information could help develop ways to prevent ACL injuries in the future. The study plans to enroll 5000 participants, but its current recruitment status is unclear.

Study design
This is an observational study that will follow 5000 healthy athletes. It is not testing a specific treatment, but rather observing participants over time.
What's involved
You would undergo an injury risk screen, which includes assessments of muscle strength and movement biomechanics, and provide demographic and sports participation data. You would then be surveyed for 12 months for new injuries.
Compensation
Not stated in the trial record.
Follow-up
Participants will be surveyed for 12 months following baseline testing for the occurrence of new musculoskeletal injuries.

Healthy athletes participating in formal, organized, competitive sports between the ages of 10 and 65 years old
  • Incidence of injury12 months from baseline

The primary outcome measure will assess the incidence of ACL injuries among participants. This metric will be determined by responses to a follow-up survey administered at 6 and 12 months post-injury risk screen. Participants will be asked whether they sustained an injury that prevented them from participating in their sport or activity for 10 or more consecutive days. The measure will capture any new ACL injuries occurring within the specified follow-up period.
