Understanding Survivorship Care for Prostate Cancer
This study is for Black and African American men who have completed treatment for localized or oligometastatic prostate cancer (cancer that has not spread widely). It compares two types of survivorship care plans (SCPs), which are summaries of your treatment history and recommendations for your ongoing health. One group will receive a standard SCP, while the other will receive a tailored SCP along with an educational supplement designed to be easy to understand. Researchers want to see if the tailored plan helps you better understand your care recommendations and prostate specific antigen (PSA) surveillance, as well as the side effects of your treatment. The study aims to enroll 150 participants.
- Study design
- This is an interventional study with 150 planned participants. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of two groups: one receiving a standard SCP and the other receiving a tailored SCP with an educational supplement.
- What's involved
- Participants will receive either a standard SCP or a tailored SCP with an educational supplement during a provider visit. They will also undergo a structured interview lasting 30-60 minutes.
- Compensation
- Not stated in the trial record.
- Follow-up
- Your comprehension of care recommendations and side effects will be measured at baseline and up to a 3-month phone call.

What this trial measures
- Comprehension of survivorship care recommendations and prostate specific antigen surveillanceAt baseline and up to 3 month phone call
Comprehension will be scored as dichotomous variables, correct or incorrect. The proportion of patients who correctly understand after the standard survivorship care plan (SCP) compared to the proportion who correctly understand after the standard SCP + tailoring + educational support will be analyzed using a two-tailed Z-score test for equality of two proportions at a significance level of P \< 0.05.
- Comprehension of treatment side effects and late effectsAt baseline and up to 3 month phone call
Comprehension will be scored as dichotomous variables, correct or incorrect. The proportion of patients who correctly understand after the standard SCP compared to the proportion who correctly understand after the standard SCP + tailoring + educational support will be analyzed using a two-tailed Z-score test for equality of two proportions at a significance level of P \< 0.05.
