Pilot Study of B Vitamin Therapy for Parkinson's Disease
This research study is looking at how B vitamins might help people with Parkinson's disease who are taking levodopa. We are studying if a daily combination of Folic Acid (1mg), Vitamin B6 (25mg), and Vitamin B12 (1,000ug) can lower high levels of homocysteine in your blood. High homocysteine levels are being investigated for their impact on thinking and memory (cognitive function). We are looking for 150 participants between 40 and 90 years old who have Parkinson's disease, are taking at least 300mg of levodopa daily, and have a certain score on a memory test (Montreal Cognitive Assessment or MOCA ≥15). The main goal is to see if this B vitamin therapy can correct high homocysteine and B vitamin deficiencies.
