Nutritional Supplementation for Geriatric Hip Fractures

This study is looking at whether special nutritional supplements can help older adults who have broken their hip. If you are 65 or older and need surgery for a hip fracture, you might be able to join. Participants will either receive the XR™ Recovery Supplement and XR Carbohydrate Loading Supplement around the time of their surgery, or they will get standard nutritional advice. The study wants to see if the supplements can reduce muscle loss, which will be measured using ultrasound on your uninjured leg. The goal is to see if these supplements can help you recover better. The current status of this study is unclear.

Study design
This is a randomized controlled trial, meaning participants are assigned by chance to receive either the supplements or standard care. The study plans to enroll 118 participants.
What's involved
Participants will receive the XR™ Recovery Supplement for three weeks after surgery and the XR Carbohydrate Loading Supplement before and on the day of surgery. Muscle loss will be measured at the start and one year after surgery.
Compensation
Not stated in the trial record.
Follow-up
Participants will be followed for one year after their operation to measure changes in muscle loss.
