Exercise Physiology and Aortic Aneurysm Study

This study is looking at how exercise affects people with an aortic aneurysm (a bulge in the main artery of the body). Doctors know exercise is good for healthy people, but they don't know what level of exercise is safe for those with an aneurysm. This study will use a special MRI machine called Exercise MRI to watch how your aorta (the main artery) responds to exercise. Researchers will measure things like how flexible your arteries are. They will also compare this information with tissue samples from patients who have surgery for their aneurysm. This study is for adults aged 18 and older, including healthy volunteers and aneurysm patients who have not had surgery yet. The goal is to understand how the aorta reacts to stress during exercise, which could help determine safe exercise levels for aneurysm patients. The study aims to enroll 35 participants.

Contra-indication for MRI
Heart pacemaker/defibrillator.
Electronic/implanted stimulators or devices, including deep brain stimulator, vagus nerve stimulator, bladder stimulator, spine stimulator, neurostimulators; implanted electrodes or wires.
Cochlear implant or other ear implants.
Implanted drug pumps (insulin, narcotic/pain medications, drugs to treat spasticity).
Programmable shunt.
Aneurysm clips and coils.
Stents (not located in heart).
Filters (for example, blood clot filters).
Metal fragment in your body or eye (eg, BBs, bullets, shrapnel, metal pieces or shavings).
Congenital heart diseases such as patent ductus arteriosus, coarctation of aorta, ASD and VSD
Presence of A-V fistula or intracardiac shunts
Moderate or severe dysfunction in multiple valves
Patients with significant claustrophobia
Patients unable to pedal a supine bicycle
Those who require supplemental oxygen
