Teen Health Choices & Wellness Study

This study, called "Teen Health Choices & Wellness," aims to understand how health, wellness, and substance use behaviors change as teenagers grow older. It involves exposing participants to different items, like an ink pen or a vape pen (this is called a cue reactivity paradigm), and asking them about their feelings and thoughts. The study is looking for 224 participants aged 13 to 16 who have recently engaged in a health behavior and live in or near Rhode Island. You should not have a history of moderate or severe substance use disorder (except nicotine) or current serious mental health symptoms. Success in this study will be measured by changes in how much participants crave cannabis when exposed to cues, which will be checked at the start, after one year, and after two years. The current recruitment status is unclear.

  • Maximum subjective craving during cannabis cue exposure (rated on a 0 to 10 scale).Baseline, 1 year, 2 years

This study utilizes a structured cannabis cue exposure paradigm. During cue exposure, participants rate subjective craving on a scale from 0, "Not at all," to 10, "Extremely." The specific item to assess positive effects is the question, "How strong is your craving to use cannabis right now" sourced from the Morean' Drug Craving Questionnaire-Now. See reference section.
