Habit Reversal Training for Tics and Premonitory Urges

This study is looking into how "premonitory urges" (uncomfortable feelings before a tic) change during and between sessions of Habit Reversal Training (HRT) for tics. HRT is a behavioral therapy where you learn to recognize when your tics are about to happen and then do a different action instead. The main goal is to see if and when these urges change during treatment. You might be able to join if you are 8 to 17 years old, have Tourette Disorder with at least three tics, and experience premonitory urges for each of your tics. The study will measure how severe your premonitory urges are at different times during the training sessions and after the treatment.

Study design
This is an interventional study with a planned enrollment of 6 participants. It is not specified if it is randomized, blinded, or what phase it is in.
What's involved
You would attend 5 study visits, each lasting about 1 to 1.5 hours, and 15 practice sessions, each about 30 minutes long, over three weeks. These sessions can be in person or online.
Compensation
Not stated in the trial record.
Follow-up
Premonitory urge severity will be measured during a 15-minute post-assessment after the training is complete.

What they're measuring
Premonitory Urge (PU) Severity as measured by the urge thermometer
Measured over PU severity will be measured during a 10 minute baseline observation; approximately 15 minutes or until 5 CR initiations have occurred, whichever is longer during each of the 3 HRT sessions and 15 practice sessions; during the 15 minute post assessment

Premonitory urge (PU) severity is an subjective measure of PU ratings while participants are implementing their competing response during study treatment sessions or practice sessions. The Urge Thermometer is an adapted version of the "feelings thermometer" from the Anxiety Disorders Interview Schedule for DSM-IV. It is a 9-point rating scale, ranging from 0 to 8 with higher scores indicating stronger urge experiences, designed to efficiently collect the patients' subjective rating of the severity/intensity of their urge.
