Aquagenic Wrinkling Prediction Study
This observational study is looking into whether a simple procedure called aquagenic wrinkling can help identify people who carry the gene for cystic fibrosis (CF). Aquagenic wrinkling is when your palms wrinkle quickly after being in water. You'll be asked to soak your hands in a water bath for up to 20 minutes, and researchers will observe how your hands respond. The study aims to see if human observation and machine learning can accurately detect this wrinkling. We are looking for 2000 participants between 18 and 24 years old who are interested in CF carrier research. You cannot participate if you have CF, diabetes, hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), Raynaud's, or certain hand conditions.
- Study design
- This is an observational study with a planned enrollment of 2000 participants. It is not a drug trial, but rather investigates a procedure.
- What's involved
- You will complete one visit where your hands will be submerged in a water bath for one minute, and photographs will be taken.
- Compensation
- Not stated in the trial record.
- Follow-up
- Observations of wrinkling will be measured for up to 20 minutes during your single visit.

What this trial measures
- Human Observation of WrinklingUp to 20 minutes
Photos of hands will be scored on a scale of 0 (no wrinkling) to 4 (severe wrinkling) at each minute by human observers.
- Machine-Learning Observation of WrinklingUp to 20 minutes
Photos of hands will be scored by a machine-learning algorithm at each minute.
