Best Practice Advisories to Reduce Inequities in Technology Use for People With Type 1 Diabetes

This study is looking at how to make sure people with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) from non-Hispanic Black and Hispanic backgrounds get fair access to advanced diabetes technologies like Automated Insulin Delivery (AID) systems, insulin pumps, and continuous glucose monitors (CGMs). Researchers will test an electronic medical record (EMR)-based Best Practice Advisory (BPA) model. This BPA is a system within the EMR that helps doctors prescribe these technologies. The study will compare if using this BPA model at six centers helps more people get these technologies compared to centers without the BPA. The main goal is to see if this BPA can reduce racial differences in who uses these advanced technologies over 12 months. This study is for people aged 2 to 95 years old who have had a T1D diagnosis for at least 6 months and are not currently using AID.
