PillSenseā„¢ for Detecting Bleeding in Anemia and Positive Hemoccult

This study is looking at how well a device called PillSenseā„¢ works. PillSenseā„¢ is a small capsule you swallow that can detect blood in your upper digestive tract within about 10 minutes. We are studying if PillSenseā„¢ can accurately show if it's safe for patients with anemia (low red blood cells) or a positive hemoccult (a test showing blood in stool) to go home, especially when they don't have obvious signs of bleeding. The results from PillSenseā„¢ won't change your current care during the study. This research aims to see if PillSenseā„¢ could eventually reduce the need for more invasive procedures like endoscopy and help ensure safe hospital discharge. We plan to include 20 participants.

Eligibility criteria

Inclusion

Age 18 years or older
Able to provide informed consent
Hospitalized patients who have been referred to the gastroenterology service for:

Exclusion

Hemodynamic instability, defined as:
Presence of overt gastrointestinal bleeding (melena, hematochezia, or hematemesis)
Conditions that might contraindicate use of an ingestible capsule, such as:
Presence of a cardiac implantable electronic device (CIED)
Pregnant or lactating women
Planned MRI before capsule excretion
