PET/MRI/EEG Imaging Study in Epilepsy

This study is looking at how epilepsy affects the brain by using special imaging tests like FDG-PET (which measures sugar use), fMRI (which measures blood flow), and EEG (which measures brain electrical activity). Researchers want to see how these different imaging methods show abnormal brain function in people with epilepsy compared to healthy individuals. You might be able to join if you are 18 or older, have been diagnosed with epilepsy, and have abnormal brain electrical activity between seizures (interictal EEG). We are looking for 30 participants. The main goal is to analyze the images after all the scans are done to understand more about epilepsy.

Study design
This is an observational study, meaning researchers will observe and collect data without giving any new treatments. It plans to include 30 participants.
What's involved
You would undergo simultaneous EEG, fMRI, and FDG-PET imaging. This includes an injection of a standard radioactive marker used in PET imaging.
Compensation
Not stated in the trial record.
Follow-up
Not specified.

Eligibility criteria

Inclusion

Age 18 or older
Diagnosed with epilepsy with abnormal interictal EEG

Exclusion

Contraindications to PET, MRI, or EEG imaging
History of severe brain disease such as stroke and head trauma
History of brain surgery
History of type I or II diabetes mellitus
Fasting plasma glucose level \>200 mg/dL

  • Image analysisImage analysis to be performed after imaging sessions are complete.

There are no interventions in this study and thus no outcome measures. Primary goal of the study will be achieved with image analysis on the PET/MRI/EEG data.
