Magnesium's Effect on Neuromonitoring During Spine Surgery

This study is looking at how magnesium sulfate affects neuromonitoring during spine surgery. Neuromonitoring (Intraoperative neurophysiologic monitoring or IONM) helps doctors check your nerves during surgery to keep them safe. Researchers will give a single dose of magnesium sulfate through an IV over 10 minutes to adult patients having open thoracolumbar fusion surgery with planned neuromonitoring. The study will measure magnesium levels and how the body processes magnesium (pharmacokinetics) for about one year. You cannot join if you have significant heart or kidney disease, or liver problems. The current status of this study is unclear, and it plans to enroll 20 participants.
