Online MedEd Intern Bootcamp for First-Year Residents

This study is testing an online program called "Online MedEd Intern Bootcamp" (OME-IB) to see if it can help reduce burnout in new doctors starting their residency. Burnout can lead to emotional exhaustion and medical errors, so this program aims to improve skills like time management and provide peer support. You might be able to join if you are an incoming first-year resident (PGY-1) starting in July 2025 in certain specialties at NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem and have not had previous U.S. postgraduate training. The study will measure changes in burnout levels at 3 and 6 months to see if the program is successful. The current recruitment status is unclear.

Study design
This is a randomized controlled trial with 59 planned participants. Participants will be assigned by chance to either receive the OME-IB program immediately or another group (details not fully provided).
What's involved
Participants will complete baseline surveys and then engage with a 7-week online training program, which includes 14 one-hour Zoom sessions over May-June 2025. Follow-up measurements will be taken at 3 and 6 months.
Compensation
Not stated in the trial record.
Follow-up
Participants will be followed for 6 months after the intervention to measure changes in burnout.

The Maslach's burnout inventory is a 22-item measurement of worker burnout which assesses emotional exhaustion (EE), depersonalization (DP), and personal fulfillment (PF) domains. Possible scores range from 0-6 on a Likert scale for each item. Scores oof EE ≥ 27 points, DP ≥ 10, and PF \<33 would indicate a high degree of burnout. Scores of EE≤18 points, DP≤5 points, and PF≥40 points would indicate a low degree of burnout.
