Study on Reducing Running Ground Contact Time

This study aims to find the most effective way to help healthy runners reduce their ground contact time (GCT), which is how long your foot stays on the ground while running. We are testing three different methods: real-time visual feedback (seeing your GCT on a screen), real-time auditory feedback (matching your steps to a metronome), and real-time verbal feedback (a clinician giving you cues). We want to see which method helps runners decrease their GCT the most. To join, you need to be a Military Service Member or USMA cadet between 17 and 60 years old, run at least 2 miles three times a week, and be able to run for 15 continuous minutes. The study is currently unclear on its recruitment status and plans to enroll 30 participants.

Eligibility criteria

Inclusion

Military Service Member or USMA cadet between the ages of 17-60
Run at least 2 miles three times per week for the past 3 months
Able to run for at least 15 continuous minutes at a self-selected speed
Fluent in the English language to read and provide informed consent and follow study instructions

Exclusion

Lower extremity or low back pain in the previous 3 months
Lower extremity or low back surgery in the previous 6 months
Self-reported pregnancy or given birth within the last 6 months
Currently on a profile that restricts or limits running
