Ketone Monoester Supplements, High Altitude, and Brain Blood Flow During Exercise

This study is looking at how a dietary supplement called Ketone Monoester (KME) affects blood flow in the brain during exercise, especially at high altitudes. Researchers want to see if taking KME changes how your body responds to exercise when there's less oxygen. They will compare KME to a placebo (an inactive drink that looks and tastes the same). The main goal is to measure your cerebral blood velocity (how fast blood flows in your brain) after 3 hours. You can join if you are 18-35 years old, a member of the research expedition team going to the Barcroft Research Station, and meet other health criteria. The current status of this study is unclear.

BMI \> 30
No prescribed medications (oral contraceptives excluded)
History of smoking
Currently following a ketogenic diet or consuming exogenous ketogenic supplements
History of heart, lung, blood vessel, or kidney disease
Currently pregnant
  • Cerebral Blood Velocity3 hours

    Transcranial Doppler ultrasound will be used to measure blood velocity in the middle cerebral artery and posterior cerebral artery. Location of measurements will remain consistent within participants.
