IntelliWell for Detecting Sperm in Testicular Samples
This study is testing a new AI-assisted device called IntelliWell. It aims to find very rare sperm cells in testicular tissue from men with infertility due to azoospermia (no sperm in semen samples). Sometimes, after a standard check, no sperm are found in these samples. IntelliWell will then process these samples to see if it can detect and locate sperm that might otherwise be missed. If sperm are found and confirmed by experts, they could potentially be used for ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection), a fertility treatment. The study will measure how well IntelliWell finds sperm and how successful it is at retrieving them. We are looking for about 20 men, aged 18 or older, who have non-obstructive azoospermia and are having testicular sperm extraction surgery at Brigham and Women's Hospital.
- Study design
- This is an interventional study involving about 20 male participants. It uses the IntelliWell device to process testicular sperm samples.
- What's involved
- You would undergo micro-surgical testicular sperm extraction surgery. Your testicular tissue would then be processed with IntelliWell, and if sperm are found, they may be used for ICSI.
- Compensation
- Not stated in the trial record.
- Follow-up
- Sperm detection and retrieval success rates will be measured at the date of surgery and the date of ICSI.
