Mindfulness Program for Hispanic Young Adults with Problematic Drinking
This study is testing an 8-week mindfulness program called Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) for Hispanic young adults (ages 18-25) who experience heavy episodic drinking. The program is adapted to be culturally relevant and is designed to help reduce problematic drinking. You would be randomly assigned to either participate in the 8-week mindfulness program or be in an assessment-only control group. Researchers will look at how well people accept the program and how many complete it, as well as attendance. The study is currently unclear on its recruitment status and plans to enroll 120 participants.
- Study design
- This is an interventional study where 120 participants will be randomly assigned to one of two groups: an 8-week mindfulness program or an assessment-only control group.
- What's involved
- You would complete online surveys at baseline, after 8 weeks, and one month later. You would also provide a finger-prick blood sample and have heart rate and blood pressure measured at four time points over approximately 14 weeks.
- Compensation
- Participants who enroll in the full study will be compensated with gift cards for their time and effort.
- Follow-up
- Participants will be followed for one month after the program completion to assess feasibility and retention.

What this trial measures
- AcceptabilityPost Intervention (within 1 week of completing the program)
Acceptability of the program will be assessed at post-intervention using a study-developed survey consisting of Likert-scale items (1 = Strongly Disagree to 5 = Strongly Agree). The survey evaluates multiple domains, including appropriateness and relevance, ease of participation and feasibility, engagement and interest, perceived benefit, satisfaction, facilitator feedback, and acceptability of the companion rewards program. Higher scores indicate greater acceptability, and results will be summarized descriptively at the item and domain levels.
- Feasibility - RetentionPost Intervention (within 1 week of completing the program) and follow-up (1-month post program completion)
Retention will be assessed as the proportion of enrolled participants who complete the post- and follow-intervention assessments. Unit of measure: percentage of enrolled participants.
- Feasibility - Attendance (intervention group only)Baseline through Week 8 (end of intervention)
Attendance will be assessed as the average number of sessions attended out of 8 total sessions. Unit of measure: mean number of sessions attended.
