A Study of AZD4144 for Sepsis-associated Acute Kidney Injury

This study is testing a drug called AZD4144 for adults aged 18 to 80 who have sepsis (a severe response to infection) and acute kidney injury (sudden kidney damage). You would have been admitted to the hospital within 7 days for a suspected or confirmed bacterial infection, and developed kidney injury within 72 hours of sepsis starting. Participants will receive either AZD4144 or a placebo (an inactive substance) through an IV. Researchers will monitor your safety daily and collect blood and urine samples. The main goal is to see how AZD4144 affects your kidney function, specifically looking at creatinine clearance, which shows how well your kidneys are filtering waste.

Study design
This is a Phase IIa, randomized, double-blind study involving 124 participants. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either AZD4144 or a placebo.
What's involved
You would receive daily intravenous AZD4144 or placebo during a treatment period. You will have daily safety monitoring, blood and urine sample collection, and other assessments while hospitalized, plus up to two follow-up visits after discharge.
Compensation
Not stated in the trial record.
Follow-up
You will be monitored daily while still hospitalized and during up to two follow-up visits after discharge.
