Investigating Ketosis and Exercise for Brain Health

This study is looking into how a special diet called ketosis (where your body burns fat for energy) and physical activity might affect your brain. Specifically, it wants to see if these things can increase a protein called BDNF (Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor), which is important for brain health, and improve your thinking abilities (cognition). Researchers are especially interested in people who have a specific genetic marker called the Met allele from the BDNF Val66Met SNP. You might be able to join if you are a healthy adult between 18 and 35 years old. Participants will receive either d-beta-hydroxybutrate (to induce ketosis) or a placebo. The main goal is to measure your BDNF levels before and after the intervention. The current recruitment status is unclear.

history of low blood sugar
limited physical abilities unable to participate in an aerobic treadmill test

    Whole blood will be taken from participants before and after the treadmill test for both placebo and ketosis trial days. Serum will be extracted and an ELIZA will be run to assess serum BDNF concentrations.
