Language Control Across Modalities Study

This study is looking at how people who speak two languages (bilinguals) or who speak one language and sign another (bimodal bilinguals) switch between their languages. Researchers want to understand how your brain controls these different languages when you're understanding or producing them. You would complete different language tasks, like classifying words or naming pictures, in different languages. The study will look at how accurate you are and how quickly you respond. To join, you need to be 18 to 65 years old and proficient in both Mandarin and English, or both ASL and English. You cannot have a third language you know better or have a language or neurological disorder. The main goal is to measure how much effort it takes to switch between languages in different situations.
