Data Collection Using Eko Digital Devices for Lung Sounds

This study is collecting information using Eko digital stethoscopes (Eko CORE 500 and 3M Littmann CORE Digital Stethoscope) to help develop an artificial intelligence (AI) program. This AI program aims to identify different types of abnormal lung sounds, like wheezing or crackles, in adults. Clinicians will use these digital stethoscopes during routine check-ups to record both normal and abnormal lung sounds from patients with or without lung conditions. The goal is to see if the AI can accurately detect these sounds and connect them to specific lung problems. You can join if you have a suspected or diagnosed lung condition, or if you have certain lung sounds like wheezing or crackles. People with normal lung sounds can also participate. This is an observational study, meaning you won't receive a new treatment, but your lung sounds will be recorded as part of your usual care. The study plans to enroll 250 people.

Eligibility criteria

Inclusion

Suspected or diagnosed lower respiratory condition OR Presence of wheeze, coarse crackle, fine crackle, rhonchus, stridor, rales, and cough discovered during routine auscultation
Normal patients with no adventitious lung sounds
Adults and pediatric patients (as available)

Exclusion

Unable to have multiple recordings taken on chest and back (e.g. compromised mobility)
On mechanical ventilation

    The primary objective of this study is to collect normal and abnormal lung sounds of up to 750 patients per study site, by having clinicians use the Eko CORE and/or Eko CORE 500 device(s) in real clinical settings, as part of standard of care clinical practice which will then be used to explore an ML algorithm for classifiers for wheeze, coarse crackle, fine crackle, rhonchus, stridor, rales, and cough, as well as determine any correspondences between the type and/or location of adventitious lung sounds and the type of pulmonary conditions as reported by clinicians.
