Targeting Neuroplasticity for Persistent Post-Concussive Cognitive Symptoms

This study is looking into a new way to help people with persistent post-concussion syndrome (PPCS), which can happen after a mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI). We are testing if combining transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), a non-invasive brain stimulation, with cognitive training can improve thinking skills. All participants will receive 10 sessions of cognitive training focused on executive functions (skills like planning and problem-solving). Some will also receive active tDCS, while others will receive sham tDCS (a placebo version of the stimulation). We want to see if the active tDCS group shows more improvement in executive function after about 3 weeks. You might be able to join if you are 18-65 years old, had a single mTBI 3-12 months ago, and have PPCS.

Study design

Eligibility criteria

Inclusion

Age 18-65
Has sustained a single mTBI 3-12 months prior to enrollment
Meets criteria for PPCS (assessed using the CP Screen)
Has reliable access to a smartphone

Exclusion

Inability to provide informed consent or complete study procedures
History of moderate/severe TBI
Significant neurological or psychiatric disorders (other than PPCS-related symptoms like mild depression/anxiety)
Substance dependence within the last six months
Contraindications to tDCS (e.g., implanted metal, skin lesions on scalp)
