Study of Secretin (Chirostim) for Pancreatic Fluid in Healthy Subjects

This study is looking at how a medicine called Secretin (human synthetic), also known as ChiRhoStim, affects the fluid produced by your pancreas. Researchers will give you a dose of Secretin through an IV during an endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), which is a procedure where a thin, flexible tube with a camera and ultrasound probe is inserted into your digestive tract. They will then collect small samples of pancreatic fluid from your small intestine at different times to measure the levels of bicarbonate, sodium, and potassium. This study aims to understand the normal composition of pancreatic fluid after stimulation. You may be able to join if you are between 18 and 80 years old, in good health, and are already having an EUS for a reason not related to your pancreas. The study plans to enroll 24 healthy individuals.

Eligibility criteria

Inclusion

Males or non-pregnant females
Age 18-80.
Participants must be in good health based on medical history (ASA Class 3 or below)
Participants must be willing and able to provide informed consent
Receiving an endoscopic ultrasound for a non-pancreatic indication

Exclusion

History of any form of pancreatitis and/or other pancreatic diseases (e.g. pancreatic cysts, pancreatic masses).
History of inflammatory bowel disease
History of vagotomy.
History of surgically altered upper gastrointestinal anatomy (e.g. gastric bypass, Billroth I/II)
History of liver disease
Pregnant women or nursing mothers
Regular use of anticholinergics
\> 2 drinks of alcohol daily
Smokers (cigarette)
