Understanding Brain Activity in Pediatric Epilepsy
This study aims to better understand how the human brain learns, remembers, makes decisions, and controls itself, especially in children and young adults with intractable epilepsy (seizures that are difficult to control with medication). Researchers will use special devices, including Cedrus RB series response pads, Adtech Behnke-Fried micro-electrodes, Neuralynx or Blackrock electrophysiology systems, and Blackrock Cerestim or Natus Nicolet stimulators, to record brain activity and apply gentle electrical stimulation. The goal is to identify specific patterns of brain activity related to memory, which could help improve epilepsy surgery and other treatments. You may be able to join if you are between 3 and 25 years old, admitted to an Epilepsy Monitoring Unit, and are having depth intracranial electrodes placed as part of your routine medical care. The study is looking to enroll 200 participants, but its current status is unclear.
