Study of RISE-APS Model for Elder Abuse and Self-Neglect

This study is looking at whether a program called RISE, when combined with Adult Protective Services (APS), can better help older adults who are at risk of or experiencing elder abuse or self-neglect. Researchers want to see if this combined RISE-APS model works well in different communities. You could be eligible if you are 60 years or older, live in the community, and APS has identified you as being at risk for or experiencing elder abuse or self-neglect. The study will measure success by looking at how many times APS has to re-investigate cases and if re-victimization occurs after six months. Study design

Inclusion

APS cases assigned for investigation involving older adults age 60 years or older who live in the community and APS has assessed as at risk of or experiencing some form of elder abuse or self-neglect

Exclusion

APS clients who refuse services or who live in long-term care settings

    Number of Adult Protective Services (APS) re-investigation will be measured as the number of repeat APS investigations opened on a client in the 6 months following initial case closure during the study period

  • Adult Protective Services Re-Victimization6 months

    Adult Protective Services (APS) re-victimization will be measured as whether or not a client is determined to have experienced a substantiated maltreatment allegation at APS within 6 months following initial case closure during the study period.
