Spiritual Care for Adults with Acute Leukemia

This study is looking at whether it's possible to include spiritual care sessions for adults hospitalized with acute leukemia (a type of blood cancer). You could join if you are an adult (18 or older) with acute leukemia (AML or ALL) starting your first treatment in the hospital, and can read and speak English. Participants will be randomly assigned to either receive standard spiritual care or special spiritual care sessions called the SCORE Intervention. The main goals are to see if patients can be enrolled in this type of study and if they will accept the spiritual care intervention. This study is currently unclear about its recruitment status and plans to enroll 70 people.

Eligibility criteria

Inclusion

Adults (18 years or older)
Diagnosis of Acute Leukemia (AML or ALL) undergoing inpatient initial therapy
Ability to read, understand, and speak the English language
Ability to understand and the willingness to sign a written informed consent document

Exclusion

Unable to comply with spiritual care intervention
Relapsed or refractory acute leukemia
Cognitive deficits that limit participation and survey questionnaire completion
