Sleep, Dreaming, and Virtual Reality for Mental Health
This study is looking at how a special type of training, called the Dream Yoga Inspired Intervention, compares to a Sleep Health Enhancement Program (SHEP) for people experiencing anxiety. The Dream Yoga training uses techniques from Tibetan Dream Yoga to explore awareness and thinking patterns. The SHEP group will focus on improving sleep habits and keeping a dream journal. Researchers want to see if these programs can change brain activity related to sleep and how your brain structures sleep. You might be able to join if you are an adult, speak English, have good dream recall (at least once a week), and score between 5-21 points on an anxiety screening (GAD-7). The study is currently recruiting about 70 participants, but its overall status is unclear.
- Study design
- This is a randomized controlled trial, meaning participants will be randomly assigned to one of two groups. The study plans to enroll 70 participants.
- What's involved
- Not specified in the trial record.
- Compensation
- Not stated in the trial record.
- Follow-up
- Your brain activity and sleep structure will be measured at the beginning of the study and again at 8 weeks.

What this trial measures
- Changes in frontal midline thetaBaseline to 8 weeks
The intervention will preferentially increase frontal midline theta during a short period of breath meditation (one recording session before and one after the intervention); EEG power band-passed at 4-10 Hz will be quantified and related to findings on self-referential processing (Nondual Awareness Dimensional Assessment)
- Changes in Sleep ArchitectureBaseline and 8 weeks
Sleep architecture will be compared with regard to time spent in each sleep stage, microarousals, slow-wave power, sleep spindles, and coupling between slow waves and spindles. Spectral power differences in different sleep stages.
