BRIDGE Study: Preventing Primary Graft Dysfunction After Lung Transplant

This study is investigating if the drug Anakinra can prevent primary graft dysfunction (a serious condition causing low blood oxygen and fluid in the lungs) in people receiving a lung transplant. Anakinra works by blocking a specific receptor (IL-1β) that contributes to inflammation. If you are 18 or older, planning to have a lung transplant using ex vivo lung perfusion (EVLP), and have not previously used an IL-1R antagonist drug, you might be able to join. Success in this study will be measured by how much primary graft dysfunction occurs three days after your lung transplant. The current status of this study is unclear, but it plans to enroll 20 participants.

Eligibility criteria

Inclusion

Age 18 years or older.
Planning to undergo transplantation of the lung.
Willing and able to read, understand, and be capable of giving informed consent.
Use of ex vivo lung perfusion (EVLP) prior to lung transplant.

Exclusion

Previous or current use of IL-1R antagonist drug.
Any condition that, in the opinion of the attending physician, would place the patient at undue risk by participating, such as highly sensitized patients who require additional immunosuppression, multiorgan transplant, and re- transplant.
