Metacognitive Strategy Training for Youth with Cerebral Palsy

This study is testing a program called Pathways and Resources for Engagement and Participation (PREP) for young people aged 13-17 with cerebral palsy (CP) and their caregivers. PREP is a problem-solving program that helps overcome challenges in daily life and uses the strengths of the young person and their family. The study also has an attention control group, which involves weekly virtual contact with a research team member. Researchers want to see if PREP is practical to deliver remotely and if it has any early positive effects. You could join if you are 13-17 years old with CP, can move around with or without equipment (GMFCS-E&R Levels I-III), and can communicate effectively (CFCS Levels I-III), along with a primary caregiver. The study's status is currently unclear.

Study design
This is an exploratory, randomized controlled trial. About 24 youth-caregiver pairs will be randomly assigned to either the PREP program or an attention control group.
What's involved
You and your caregiver would complete remote baseline assessments and then participate in 12 weekly virtual sessions, each lasting about 60 minutes. After 12 weeks, you would complete remote post-intervention assessments and may be invited for an optional interview.
Compensation
Not stated in the trial record.
Follow-up
Assessments are conducted at the end of the 12-week intervention or attention control period.
