This pilot study is looking at whether eating fermented poi daily can improve the health of the mother's microbiome (the community of tiny living things in your body) and reduce the risk of developing gestational diabetes (high blood sugar during pregnancy). Fifty pregnant women will eat one pound of fermented poi every day for 28 days. Researchers will look at changes in your microbiome, diet, and whether you develop gestational diabetes. To join, you must be at least 18 years old, between 10 and 24 weeks pregnant, have no existing health conditions, live on the windward side of O'ahu, and own a smartphone.
