Study of Steroid Injections for Back Pain

This study is looking at different doses of steroid injections to treat lower back pain that spreads to the legs (lumbar radiculopathy or sciatica). Researchers want to see if different doses of Triamcinolone (10 mg, 40 mg, or 80 mg) or Dexamethasone (2 mg or 4 mg) injections are better at reducing pain and improving your quality of life. You might be able to join if you are an adult with MRI-confirmed lumbar radiculopathy, haven't had back surgery, and don't take strong pain medication. The study will measure your pain levels at the start, and then again 2 weeks and 6 weeks after the injection. The study is currently unclear on its status and plans to enroll 150 participants.

Inclusion

Adults able to consent
Lumbar radiculopathy with MRI-confirmed pathology
No history of back surgery
Use of interlaminar approach lumbar spine injections
No use of oral pain medication other than Tylenol or Acetaminophen during the 6 weeks after injection

Adults unable to consent
Individuals who are not yet adults (infants, children, teenagers)
Pregnant women
History of back surgery
Use of oral pain meds other than Tylenol or Acetaminophen during the 6 weeks after injection
