Shockwave Therapy for Elbow and Wrist Spasticity in Spinal Cord Injury

This study is looking at whether focused extracorporeal shockwave therapy can help reduce spasticity (involuntary muscle stiffness) in the elbow and wrist for people with spinal cord injuries (SCI). Spasticity in the arms and hands can make daily tasks difficult and affect independence. Researchers will apply shockwave therapy to the forearm and elbow flexor muscles in three sessions. The study will measure changes in your spasticity using a tool called the Modified Ashworth Scale after 4 weeks to see if the treatment is effective. You might be able to join if you are 18 or older, have had a chronic SCI for over a year, and have a certain level of spasticity in your elbow and wrist flexors.

    The Modified Ashworth Scale (MAS) is a physical exam maneuver used frequently both clinically and for research purposes to assess the increase in velocity-dependent muscle tone after neurologic disorders.
