Inflammation in Clear Aligners With and Without Attachments Study

This study is looking at how clear aligners, with and without small bumps called attachments, might affect gum inflammation. Many people use clear aligners for straightening teeth, and while they often improve gum health, the attachments sometimes used with them could potentially trap plaque and cause more inflammation. This study wants to see if there's a difference in inflammation levels in molars (back teeth) when attachments are used versus when they are not. Researchers will measure a specific marker of inflammation called IL-1B on Day 1. You could be eligible if you are an orthodontic patient at the UNMC College of Dentistry, are between 14 and 35 years old, and are currently using clear aligner therapy. The study aims to enroll 30 participants.

Study design
This is an observational study with 30 participants, divided into two groups of 15. One group will have clear aligners with attachments, and the other will have clear aligners without attachments.
What's involved
You would be screened for eligibility and, if you qualify, asked to participate. Your routine orthodontic treatment with clear aligners will continue as planned.
Compensation
Not stated in the trial record.
Follow-up
Inflammation will be measured on Day 1.
