Peer Support for Opioid Use Disorder

This study is looking at whether connecting people with Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) to a Certified Peer Support Specialist (someone who has recovered from OUD themselves) can help them start and stay on Medications for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD). Participants are recruited from mobile health clinics in South Carolina. The study aims to enroll 750 adults (18 years or older) who have an OUD diagnosis and are new patients at these mobile health clinics. You cannot join if you are already working with a peer support specialist or have severe medical/psychiatric issues that would prevent participation. The main goals are to see how many people start MOUD after 3 months and how many stay on MOUD after 6 months. The study status is currently unclear.

Study design
This is a randomized study involving 750 participants. Half will receive the Certified Peer Support Specialist Intervention along with standard care, and the other half will receive standard care alone.

Age 18+
Have diagnosis of OUD
New mobile health MOUD patient

Exclusion

Unable to read and comprehend the consent materials and other study materials
Currently working with a Certified Peer Support Specialist
Having severe medical or psychiatric disability that would hinder participation in the study, as determined by the clinical provider
