ParkinSense System for Freezing of Gait in Parkinson's Disease
This study is looking at whether a system called ParkinSense can help people with Parkinson's disease who experience "freezing of gait" (FOG), which is when you suddenly feel like your feet are stuck to the ground. The ParkinSense system is a device you wear on your body that gives different types of cues to help prevent FOG and get you moving again. Researchers want to see if using this system reduces the amount of time you spend frozen compared to not using it. You could join if you have a confirmed diagnosis of Parkinson's disease, have experienced FOG, can walk, and have a certain score on a memory and thinking test (Montreal Cognitive Assessment or MOCA). You cannot join if you have nerve damage in your arms or legs (peripheral neuropathy), dementia, or severe walking problems not caused by Parkinson's.
- Study design
- This is an interventional study planning to enroll 60 participants. It will compare using the ParkinSense system to not using it.
- What's involved
- You will have two clinic visits. The first visit includes screening, consent, and a lab study where you'll wear the system. This is followed by two weeks of using the system at home, and then a final visit to return the device and complete questionnaires.
- Compensation
- Not stated in the trial record.
- Follow-up
- The primary endpoint, percent of time frozen, is measured at Day 1 during the laboratory visit.

What this trial measures
- Percent of time frozenDay 1 (during the laboratory visit)
The total duration of annotated FOG events for that sequence divided by the total duration of the sequence.
