Enlace Familiar: Supporting Mental Health in Latino Adolescents

This study is testing a program called Enlace Familiar. This program helps Latino adolescents (teens) learn to talk about their mental health with trusted adults like caregivers. We want to see if Enlace Familiar helps teens communicate better about their mental health. You might be able to join if you are a Latino adolescent between 14 and 18 years old, speak Spanish, and have some mental health concerns (scoring 3-12 on the PHQ-4 screening tool) but are not currently receiving mental health treatment. The study will look at how often teens talk about their mental health for up to 6 months. The current recruitment status is unclear.

Study design
This is an interventional study planning to enroll 64 participants. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of two groups: either the Enlace Familiar program or a control group.

If you join, you will have two individual sessions for the Enlace Familiar program, either in person or online. You will also receive a list of mental health resources.

Eligibility criteria

Inclusion

High school-age adolescents, ages 14-18 who self-identify as Latino
Adolescents scoring between 3-12 on the Patient Health Questionnaire-4 (PHQ-4), a brief mental health screening tool for anxiety and depression
Adolescents who are not currently receiving mental health treatment or in the past 12 months
Adolescents fluent in Spanish or English
Parents of High school-age adolescents, ages 14-18 who completed the intervention (T3)
Parents fluent in Spanish or English

Exclusion

youth not fluent in English or Spanish
youth currently receiving mental health treatment or who have received it in the past year
parents of High school-age adolescents, ages 14-18 who did not completed the intervention (T3);
parents not fluent in Spanish or English
