Evaluating Prehospital Lung Ultrasound in EMS

This study is looking at whether using a lung ultrasound (a test that uses sound waves to create images of your lungs) by paramedics can change how patients with breathing difficulties, like those with heart failure (CHF) or fluid in their lungs (pulmonary edema), are treated before they reach the hospital. You might be able to join if you are 18 or older, are being treated by emergency medical services (EMS) for shortness of breath, and have certain symptoms like low oxygen or abnormal lung sounds. Inclusion

Patient treated by Emergency Medical Services
Complaint of dyspnea
Oxygen saturation \<94% on room air
Abnormal lung sounds
Increased work of breathing
Pedal edema
Orthopnea

Exclusion

Pediatric patients (\<18)
Traumatic etiology
Cardiac arrest at any point prehospitally
No ultrasound-trained paramedic involved in patient's care
