Observational Study on Heart Disease Risk in Childhood Cancer Survivors

This study is looking at heart and blood vessel health in adult survivors of childhood cancer, who may be at higher risk for heart disease (atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease or ASCVD) due to past treatments like radiation or platinum chemotherapy. Researchers will use several diagnostic tests, including a Coronary Artery Calcium Scan (a special CT scan of your heart), Carotid Artery Ultrasound (an ultrasound of the arteries in your neck), and a blood test to measure Lipoprotein(a) (a fat-like substance in your blood). They will also perform Vascular Function Testing to check the stiffness of your arteries. The goal is to understand the prevalence of abnormal heart and blood vessel findings in survivors compared to people who haven't had cancer, to help develop better prevention strategies. This study is for adults aged 18 and older who are part of the St. Jude Lifetime Cohort (SJLIFE).

Inclusion

Age ≥18 years
Enrolled in the St. Jude Lifetime Cohort (SJLIFE)
Participant or legal guardian/representative is able and willing to give informed consent.
Participant has been treated with at least one of the following cancer therapies:

Exclusion

Previous stroke or intervention for severe carotid arterial disease including carotid endarterectomy or carotid angioplasty and stent placement.
Previous myocardial infarction or intervention for severe cardiovascular disease including Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG), coronary stent placement or coronary angioplasty.
History of aortic valve replacement
Inability or unwillingness of research participant or legal guardian/representative to give written informed consent.
First degree relative of SJLIFE Survivor
History of cancer

    Carotid artery stenosis as a percentage (%) and then as abnormal (Y/N) with abnormal considered stenosis at least 50% in either the L or R carotid artery.
