Psilocybin for Healthy Aging and Purpose in Life

This study, called LONG-LIFE, is looking at whether psilocybin (a substance found in certain mushrooms) can affect how we age and our sense of purpose in life. Researchers will give 25mg capsules of psilocybin to older adults aged 60 to 80. They want to see if psilocybin changes biological markers (signs in your body) related to aging and improves your feeling of purpose. The study will measure these changes at 4 and 16 weeks after you start. To join, you need to be medically healthy and speak English. The study is currently unclear on its recruitment status.

Study design
This is a randomized Phase I study with up to 50 participants. You would be assigned to one of four groups, including different numbers of psilocybin doses or a wait-list group.
What's involved
You would have assessments at the beginning and then regularly over a 12-month period. This includes measuring biomarkers of aging, cognitive performance, and behavior.
Compensation
Not stated in the trial record.
Follow-up
Your progress will be followed for 12 months after the initial assessments.
