Inspiratory Muscle Training for Total Joint Surgery
This study is looking at whether breathing exercises before orthopedic surgery can help improve your breathing and recovery. We know that breathing can be harder for a few days after surgery. This study will test if doing daily Inspiratory Muscle Training (dIMT) for 2-4 weeks before surgery, or a single session of Acute Inspiratory Muscle Training (aIMT) right before surgery, helps compared to standard care. We'll measure your breathing strength (Maximal Inspiratory Pressure) and lung capacity (Forced Vital Capacity) 24 hours after surgery to see if these exercises make a difference. You might be able to join if you are 18 to 100 years old and have certain risk factors for breathing problems after surgery, like a history of tobacco use or a lung condition. The current status of this study is unclear.
